As a trusted estate planning attorney, it’s important for me to inform the public about the latest statewide  initiative to reinstate Prop 58 . This initiative is led by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association (HJTA) and it aims to reinstate the property tax law that had been in place for approximately 35 years, allowing families to transfer their family home and up to $1M of other assessed property to the next generation without facing exorbitant and often unaffordable property tax increases.

The  FiX*Prop19 – Repeal the Death tax petition  signing campaign has been in full swing for the past several months, garnering an overwhelming response from thousands of supporters who have already signed the petition. The momentum is building, but we still need thousands more signed petitions by February 5, 2024, in order to achieve the goal of 1.3 million signatures and qualify for the November 2024 ballot.

This initiative has a profound impact on all Californians, including property owners, renters, and small family businesses. By coming together, we have the power to make a positive change for the individuals in our state.
